Van de Ven Double Ends The Toffees' Run at Brand New Home Ground

Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Tottenham prolonged their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and handed the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced twice from corners in the first half to place their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker the Brazilian - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the tally a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates the manager's side into third place in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and sit half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Following a drab midweek display in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a only two shots on target, the manager opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Everton's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have worn off somewhat and supporters headed to the gates after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home will not be a major worry for David Moyes, but their striker situation are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two established centre-forwards - had scored just one league goal combined before Sunday's match.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable tally on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was summed up when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from close range, even with having space and time to reposition for a more conventional shot that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. The majority of the home side's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who tirelessly delivered dangerous balls into the Spurs box.
